The Labour Party is determined to be led by disabled people, the experts by experience.

I took over the role of Shadow Minister for Disabled People in April 2020. While I have already spoken to countless disabled people, disabled people’s organisations, charities, unions and other civil society organisations, I want to go further. The introduction of roadshows is an opportunity for me to talk to disabled people about the issues that matter most to them, be they local or national.

In the short term, these roadshows will help develop Labour’s comprehensive response to the Government’s National Strategy for Disabled People and the forthcoming disability benefits green paper. Longer-term, these virtual roadshows kickstart a four-year engagement programme, ensuring disabled people are at the heart of the Labour Party’s policy development.

Click on the buttons below to access the write ups from the various roadshows we have held to date. All names and other identifying information has been removed. Please note some of these write ups include discussion of significant personal distress, including attempted suicide.

Please also note that these observations were made by independent participants and are not necessarily representative of my views or those of the Labour Party.
