Vicky Foxcroft MP for Lewisham Deptford & Shadow Minister for Disabled People
As many of you will be aware, as part of the recent Transport for London bailout the Government is requiring TfL to withdraw free school travel for the under 18s. This will make it even harder to get children and young people back into education – 60 percent of whom in London are from black and ethnic minority communities.
In his response, Minister Nick Gibb suggested children from low income backgrounds in London should get on their bikes now they’ve lost their free travel.
How about those who are housed many miles away thanks to his Government’s inability to deal with the housing crisis? Not to mention those who are disabled or cannot ride a bike for other reasons.
