Leaseholders in properties under 11 metres tall are facing bankruptcy because they cannot afford to cover cladding and non-cladding costs to meet building safety standards as they are not protected by the 2022 Building Safety Act.

I raised the case of one constituent who is expecting to be charged well over £100,000 for cladding costs, and even more on top of this for non-cladding costs.

The Government must act to protect leaseholders from extortionate costs to pay for maintenance on property they do not own and ensure that leaseholders who live in properties under 11 metres tall are supported to ensure the same safety standards as those living in taller buildings.
