My office – like many up and down the country, I’m sure – deals with outstanding asylum cases week in, week out. Despite promises that the situation would improve, we are still waiting an unacceptably long time for updates from the Home Office.

After her statement today on the Government’s Illegal Migration Bill, I asked Home Secretary Suella Braverman why there is nothing in the Bill to address the fact 160,000 people are currently awaiting a decision on their asylum claim.

Her response painted a very different picture to what we’re seeing on the ground…
