At Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Questions this morning I highlighted the letter sent by a group of 100 charities, including Scope, Age UK, Energy Action Scotland, Fair By Design and  National Energy Action, to Chancellor Jeremy Hunt calling for a social energy tariff to help low-income & vulnerable older & disabled households.

A survey for Age UK suggests that 24% of over-60s are living in homes which are colder than they would like them to be, rising to 27% for older people with a disability.

As we endure another period of very cold weather in the UK, I asked Minister Nusrat Ghani if her department would give serious consideration to targeted support for these groups.
