On the 24th May 2023, I wrote to the Governing Body of Leathersellers Federation of Schools, the NEU and GMB, and Cllr Chris Barnham to urge all parties involved in the Leathersellers strikes to get back round the table with ACAS to work towards a resolution.

You can read the letter in full below.

Dear Governing Body of Leathersellers Federation of Schools, NEU and GMB representatives and Cllr Chris Barnham,

As the MP for Lewisham Deptford, I have been contacted by hundreds of parents who are concerned about the ongoing dispute regarding the proposed academisation of the Leathersellers Federation of Schools.

I have spoken to many of the people involved – including members of the Governing Body, union members, parents, and council representatives – at great length.

I have made it clear that I am not in favour of academisation. However, I am deeply concerned about the ongoing situation and the impact it is having on our young people’s education.

I strongly believe that the Governing Body and union representatives need to get back round the table with ACAS to work towards an urgent resolution.

I understand that some progress has been made, but that the talks ultimately broke down.

I would like to stress that I am no way seeking to apportion blame. I am simply urging everyone to engage in these talks in good faith, to break the deadlock as soon as possible.

If you feel I can be of any assistance in resolving the dispute, please contact me at any time.

I will also be sharing the contents of this letter with constituents who have contacted me to express their concerns.

Kind regards,

Vicky Foxcroft MP
