Who are Action for Refugees in Lewisham?
Action for Refugees in Lewisham is a small, independent charity who aim to alleviate poverty and improve the wellbeing of asylum seekers, refugees and vulnerable migrants living in Lewisham and neighbouring areas. Their main objective is to provide holistic services that improve their quality of life, increase their access to services, and encourage empowerment through community involvement.
Sadly, many of their clients are destitute and there is a very real need to provide services which stop the most vulnerable people in South East London from going to bed hungry.
The Helping Hands Food Bank will tackle immediate hunger by providing weekly fresh food boxes to refugees and asylum seekers with little or no access to food, but it will also serve as a platform for education and self-sufficiency, providing advice and resources which will encourage our clients to live better, happier lives and foster connections with the local community.
What can you do to help?
AFRIL have just launched a crowdfunding campaign through Lewisham’s Small and Faith Fund to raise money for the project, and are asking for your support. If they raise 15% of their total budget costs, Lewisham Council could pledge up to £10,000 of additional funding, an amount which would make a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable refugee and asylum seekers in Lewisham.
For AFRIL to have a real impact, they need support to keep their campaign going. So please share this post, tell your family, friends and colleagues and spread the word on Facebook and Twitter. To donate to AFRIL’s campaign, you can do so here.
