I’m sure you will be as frustrated as I am to hear that the Prime Minister has ruled out the possibility of holding a meaningful vote in the Commons this week. She is continuing to run down the clock in an attempt to force MPs to choose between her deal and no deal.

Parliament cannot stand by and allow this to happen. My Labour colleagues and I are working incredibly hard with others across the Commons to try and break the deadlock.

If a general election is not forthcoming, we believe that there are two credible options left to prevent a no deal: either a close economic relationship with the EU (based on Labour’s credible plan) or a public vote.

In the absence of a meaningful vote this week, Theresa May will table what we call an ‘amendable motion’. We will seriously consider supporting any amendments to the motion which seek to stop a no deal outcome. We are backing Yvette Cooper’s new amendment on this, but as I write no decision has been taken on the amendments that the Labour front bench will put forward.

As always I will do my best to keep the website updated with any important developments.
