Vicky Foxcroft MP for Lewisham Deptford & Shadow Minister for Disabled People
Chancellor Rishi Sunak says that guidance has been given to workplaces to ensure they are Covid-secure and that shielding and disabled people can return to work safely. But if he can’t guarantee employers will do the right thing he should extend the furlough scheme.
My question in full:
“Disabled people and charities are concerned about the lack of support available to enable high-risk individuals to return to work safely when the shielding programme ends.
“Ministers have said, they ‘expect employers to do the right thing’ and ensure that workplaces are COVID-secure.
“Where it’s impossible for an employer to do this, individuals could be forced to put their health at risk just to make ends meet.
“Will the Government consider extending the full Job Retention Scheme for those who are not able to return to work safely?”
