Thank you to everyone who contacted me to raise concerns about the Coronavirus Bill (now the Coronavirus Act). The Act gives the Government a range of emergency powers to enable it to deal with the crisis swiftly.
I am aware that many people had concerns about the bill as it was initially presented by the Government and my Labour colleagues and I worked hard to push for amendments in the very limited amount of time we had. Some of those concerns are addressed elsewhere on my website, such as potential consequences for disabled people and the impact on certain religious funerals.
While we were not able to achieve all the changes we had hoped for, we were successful in pressing the Government to include an amendment which allows for the act to be reviewed every six months.
