Janet and Vicky meeting with representatives at Hither Green station

Last month, Janet Daby MP and I joined Network Rail, the Department for Transport and Southeastern for a walkabout around Hither Green station to discuss our concerns about the station’s accessibility. This followed a letter we wrote to the Secretary of State for Transport last year, requesting that the Government urgently prioritise step-free improvements at Hither Green as part of the Department for Transport’s Access for All scheme. Currently, 4 out of the 6 platforms are only accessible by steps and the station itself is accessible by a steep ramp which is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Hither Green, like several other stations in Lewisham Deptford constituency, is not fit for purpose and makes travelling by train an impossibility for many people living nearby. Janet and I will be continuing to lobby DfT, Network Rail and Southeastern until Hither Green station is accessible for everyone to use.
