Vicky Foxcroft MP for Lewisham Deptford & Shadow Minister for Disabled People
Many constituents have been in touch with me recently with concerns about proposals for cuts to local bus services, sharing their experiences of how these changes will impact their journeys.
I am deeply concerned about TfL’s proposals to cut many of the bus routes that serve Lewisham Deptford, including the 53, 171 and 172. Much of south London is already poorly connected to the centre of London, and these proposals will only further isolate many who rely on these routes as their sole means of transport. With sky high rail fares, buses have always been an affordable alternative.
I am concerned that these cuts will disproportionately impact low-paid workers and I sincerely hope TfL reassesses these plans. A consultation on these proposals is expected in September. I will be following this very closely and I will fight to protect our local bus services.
