I have received so many emails from constituents about Article 50. However, I’ve struggled to know whether or when to respond as we currently know so little about any action we can take.

As you are probably aware, the court ruling does not mean the end of Brexit. The Government will be appealing the decision from the High Court that ruled MPs and Lords will have to give the go-ahead before triggering Article 50.

As it stands, the Government has given us very little information on Britain’s exit from the EU. Theresa May consistently claims the party are keeping their cards close to their chest and cannot give details of any trade negotiations. However this tactic is leading many experts to believe there is no real plan at all.

Concerns are growing and we are on a ticking clock. As well as the people of Britain, our allies in Europe also want answers. I hope the Government will refrain from using the hostile tones we have recently seen during discussions. It is important we uphold close relationships with other EU countries.

Whilst we wait for the Supreme Court’s decision on triggering Article 50 the Labour Party will continue to push the Government for information. We will continue to make sure our red lines are clear when it comes to negotiating the UK’s exit deal with the EU; on employment, environmental and social protection, and on access to the European market.

I wish I could give more answers, right now it is a waiting game. In the meantime I will be keeping the website updated with any news or decisions made.
