Vicky Foxcroft MP for Lewisham Deptford & Shadow Minister for Disabled People
On Sunday the 14th June Vicky attended the Liberteas event at St Laurence Church in Lewisham to celebrate Lewisham Borough as a pioneer of local rights.
The event was part of a nationwide movement to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.
The event focussed on Lewisham council pioneering in the 1980’s to set up women’s and race relations committees to reflect local diverse communities.
Vicky attended the event alongside Liam Islam, who is the Young Mayor in Lewisham, Cllr Jimi Adefiranye and Heidi Alexander who is the MP for Lewisham East.
Vicky said after the event “It is so important that we remember the events of the past that have gained us our rights and privileges in the present day.”
“Lewisham has a proud history of being at the forefront of inclusion and representation and that’s something we need to celebrate locally and be proud of on a national scale.”
Liberteas is one of many events taking place across the local area to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Magna Carta.
