Vicky Foxcroft, met with clients and staff at St Mungo’s Broadway project Spring Gardens, Hither Green yesterday (Tuesday 4th August).

Spring Gardens is a 65 bed hostel for single homeless adults, including people who have slept rough. Designed with it’s clients in mind it was remodelled and reopened in 2009 as the first purpose built homeless hostel in the UK. The hostel provides accommodation and vital support to help people recover from homelessness and to gain the skills and confidence needed to live independently.

Vicky heard firsthand about how people are struggling with the high cost of rent, as well as the other factors that contribute to homelessness.

Vicky Foxcroft, said: “It was great to visit and see first-hand the excellent work done at Spring Gardens. The staff are hardworking, committed and hugely energetic”

“I look forward to working closely with the project and the staff at Spring Gardens in the near future and supporting the brilliant work done there.”

Vicky Tunnicliff, St Mungo’s Broadway Project Manager, said: “We are delighted that Vicky Foxcroft was able to visit Spring Gardens and see the work we do here to support homeless people in Lewisham to rebuild their lives. The project provides much needed support to help their recovery. This can be through support for health issues, housing and benefits and through improving people’s confidence and skills, for example with reading, IT or volunteering in our garden.”
