Where is the funding to ensure our tower blocks are safe?

After the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower, the Government promised funding for councils to ensure every tower block was safe. During the Urgent Question on Grenfell Tower today, I asked Sajid Javid, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, why funding from Government still has not appeared.

This funding was meant for carrying out safety checks, removing unsafe cladding and fitting sprinklers. Lewisham Council have been carrying out safety checks in tower blocks throughout the borough - at great expense to the council, because still no funding from Government has been offered.

With council funding already cut to the bone, I asked Sajid Javid today whether the Government was attempting to bankrupt councils.
