Stranded Southeastern trains

On Friday 2nd March, several Southeastern trains were stranded for hours outside Lewisham station due to the severe weather conditions. This happened at peak time and many of the carriages were overcrowded. Some passengers took matters into their own hands and self-evacuated from these trains, directly on to the tracks. We are lucky no one died.
A full investigation must take place into the incident and I have asked the Department for Transport for the Rail Accident Investigation Branch to conduct this. The branch usually only investigates rail accidents, but due to the severity of this incident it is important lessons are learnt to improve future railway safety.
This morning I also asked for a debate to take place on the guidance for stranded trains, to make sure this guidance is particularly fit for purpose for commuter trains and to keep passengers safe.

If you were affected on Friday 2nd March, make sure you claim compensation. You are due £100 or double Delay Repay - whichever is greater. Claim online here.
