PMQs: Requesting a meeting with the PM

Yesterday I was lucky enough to be drawn in the ballot for PMQs and used the opportunity to raise the Youth Violence Commission with the Prime Minister.

The Youth Violence Commission, a cross-party group of MPs which I chair, is currently conducting a national survey looking into young people's early experiences of violence.

A growing body of research into Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) show that early traumatic experiences in childhood can have a long-term impact on the life chances and health of an individual. The commission’s Safer Lives Survey is the first national survey of young people on this issue and we hope it will give policymakers a better understanding of the different ways violence manifests in and impacts young lives from an early age.

I raised the survey at PMQs today and asked the Prime Minister to meet with me to discuss how we can work together to tackle the root causes of youth violence. Unfortunately she did not grant me a meeting, but I look forward to meeting with Amber Rudd, the Home Secretary, soon to discuss a cross-party approach to addressing the root causes of youth violence.
