Women in Lewisham Deptford still earn just 91p for every pound a man earns according to official figures from the ONS.

Today Vicky Foxcroft, Member of Parliament for Lewisham Deptford, called on the Government to task the independent Equalities and Human Rights Commission with producing an ‘Annual Equal Pay Check’, reporting on Britain’s gender pay gap, and to make recommendations for action by Government and employers so progress can be made.

Vicky today submitted a Private Members Bill to the House of Commons.

The Bill, which is named the Representation of the People (Young Persons’ Enfranchisement and Education) Bill, looks at the introduction of voting in all elections to 16 and 17 year olds and ensures provision for education in schools around the issue of voting.

On Monday 15th June Vicky question Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan about the number of failing academies.

It was the first time the Secretary of State had made the figures clear after she had avoided the question five times on BBC Breakfast.

On Sunday the 14th June Vicky attended the Liberteas event at St Laurence Church in Lewisham to celebrate Lewisham Borough as a pioneer of local rights.
